Pope John Paull II Address to the Maronite Community
THE MARONITE CHARISMA

The Maronite Catholic Church lays claim to a Charisma that no other rite can match:
1. Unwavering obedience to Christ's Vicar,
2. Unmatched fidelity to the Church's objectively revealed truth so that never has heresy or schism breached her hierarchical ranks in 1,600 years.

This charisma reveals a strength of character and moral courage that adversity has not shaken; adversity that has included martyrdom, persecution by foe and friend alike, abandonment, treachery, economic hardship, hostile encirclement, etc. This Maronite love for God has been demonstrated by real events century after century.

The concept of humility and obedience, which is characteristic of Saints' Maroun and Sharbel, is the foundation for the strength of character of the Maronite people. These virtues vividly lived in the life of St. Sharbel coupled with the profusion of miracles during his beatification process is God's call to his people to return these safeguarding virtues that has protected the Maronite faith over
the centuries.
